Hello friends, welcome to another issue of Desire Path — a newsletter for photographers and photography enthusiasts interested in NFTs and web3.
Two Crossed Paths
Left: “Le Musée Imaginaire” by Anna Condo.
Right: “An American Landscape” by Jason Chambers.
Three Photo Projects
“Meticulous Detail” by Calla Kessler brings detailed photos from the 2021 Met Gala, fashion's most important red carpet night.
“Alchemies For The Heart” by Simon Overton. Photographs of atmospheric landscapes close to Overton's heart and home.
“Observations of Absence” by Brileigh Hardcastle confronts death’s presence on the streets and in objects as a way of coming to accept and acknowledge it.
Four Art Projects
“Nullz (Range Variations)” by Roberto Salazar. Scanned advertisements are digitally deleted and reconstructed. Based on a Kool cigarettes ad found on Penthouse magazine December 1979 Page #21.
“The Daydreamers” by Big Hugs Studio are a collection of one hundred original ink drawings by artist Christopher David Ryan (CDR). Conceived during his daily rides on the L Train between Brooklyn and Manhattan, the drawings explore CDR’s curiosity into what his fellow commuters might have been thinking about behind their closed eyes, as they seemed to inhabit internal spaces to be alone with their thoughts.
“Virda Collection” by Virda Khalid.
“Proof of (No) Work” by Dame. A conceptual art project that explores labor, productivity, and compensation. Buy a time card, the artist will be unproductive, and you’ll receive the proof. Learn more: dame.art/ponw
Five Things to Check Out
Ethereum just completed The Merge — here’s how much energy it’s saving.
Alice Zoo writes in defence of portraits.
“[…] I am reminded that the effect of a portrait is negotiated between three sets of voices, subjectivities, agencies: those of the photographer, those of the subject of the photograph, and those of the viewer. By discussing the motives of the photographer only — even in the noble attempt to protect the agency of the subject — we remain in a closed loop, with nowhere to go, and portraitists trying to be more and more pure until the only recourse is not to make portraits at all.”
The new Starbucks Odyssey experience will allow members to earn and buy NFTs that will unlock access to immersive coffee experiences.
